Hellos and Goodbyes

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Leigh last weekend. She is off to continue volunteering in Honduras for a month, and then to Nicaragua for another month. It was sad seeing her leave, especially since my first comforting deep breath after getting off the plane in Guatemala City came after a welcoming hug from her, super tall, beautiful and wrapped in her signature blue scarf amongst the chaos of the arrivals area. It felt different this week without her in school, but we´re learning quickly that with this experience comes neverending hellos and goodbyes.

We also said goodbye to Nicole and Troy, early 30´s ... sold their house in Canada to volunteer around the world for a year... Guatemala was their first stop, then they´re off to do a GVI internship in Ecuador, heading to Peru, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal and Thailand!!

And this is Dario...don´t know how old this guy is, but he is from Italy and has been traveling the world for 12 years now...he has published two books and is working on a third right now...he speaks 5 languages fluently and has more crazy interesting stories than I would have ever believed one person could experience in a lifetime...and even so, amazingly, he was sad and emotional leaving this project to continue on his journies

  1. K - I am thoroughly enjoying your photographs and stories of this great journey you are on. I loved Leigh's description of you on her blog:

K - my first friend on this adventure. A fellow American and an East Coast resident nonetheless. A tiny bit timid, but it's only really in her voice. An amazing listener and so welcoming. More afraid to speak broken Spanish than to jump off a slippery rock 30 feet in the air and into a freezing cold lake!

It speaks to your sense of adventure, your gentle nature, and your Virgo perfectionism.

    You are inspiring!

    Love,

    Birsu
